Title Procedure
1
Push the [W/T] Zoom
Lever toward [T] to
zoom in on the subject.
2
Set the Mode Selector
Switch to [AE LOCK].
The [
AE
LOCK
] Indication
flashes and then lights.
The brightness of the
picture is now locked to
the value it had at the
moment of setting the
switch to [AE LOCK].
Recording with Fixed Brightness
(AE Lock)
The AE Lock Function lets you record a subject with
the same brightness even when the lighting conditions
change greatly. For example, when you record a
person who moves from a bright to a dark place, or
vice versa, this function prevents the persons face
from becoming brighter or darker.
Set the AE Lock again when the [TAPE/CARD]
Selector is switched after the AE Lock has been set.
(The brightness setting may be changed.)
Locking the Brightness
at a Desired Level
After Step
1
, set the
Mode Selector Switch to
[MNL] to adjust the
brightness manually
(p. 62) and then set the
Mode Selector Switch to
[AE LOCK].
Notes for Zebra Pattern
To prevent recording of overexposed, whitish
pictures, manually adjust iris/gain (p. 62) so that the
Zebra Pattern disappears.
The recorded picture may become dark when it is set
so that the Zebra Pattern does not appear.
Of course, the Zebra Pattern is not recorded onto the
tape.
When the Surf & Snow Mode of Programme AE or
Backlight Compensation is used, the Zebra Pattern
no longer serves as the general reference for
adjusting the brightness.
Notes about the Microphone Sensitivity Level
When you set [MODE] of [MIC LEVEL] to any other
setting than [AUTO], the Microphone Sensitivity
Level appears. Adjust the [GAIN] value as
confirming [LEVEL (MIC)] on the Indication, so that
the last three Bars of the [LEVEL (MIC)] will not light
red. (The Sound is distorted when the last three
Bars of the [LEVEL (MIC)] Indication light red.) In
this case, select a lower setting for [GAIN] or set
[MIC LEVEL] to [AUTO]. It is recommended that you
check through the headphones before recording to
ensure that the sound is not distorted.
When this setting is changed, the [AUDIO LEVEL]
setting on the [RECORDING SETUP] Sub-Menu of
the [VCR FUNCTIONS] Main-Menu will likewise be
changed. (p. 67)
Microphone Sensitivity Level
AUTO: AGC is activated, and the recording
level is adjusted automatically.
MNL (AGC): The desired recording level can be set.
AGC will also be activated to reduce
the amount of distortion in the music.
MNL (NO-AGC):
AGC is not activated and so natural
recording can be performed. Adjust in
such a way that the sound will not be
distorted at the maximum volume level.
(When Zoom Mic is set, set the zoom to
the [T] position before performing this
adjustment.)
Other Convenient Functions
This Movie Camera comes with 4 professional
functions (Advanced Functions) which come in handy
for recording.
1 Zebra Pattern [ZEBRA]
2 Microphone Sensitivity Level Adjustment
[MIC LEVEL ADJ.]
3 Picture Adjustment [PICTURE ADJ.]
4 Colour Bar [COLOUR BAR]
This displays 7 colour bars which are useful for
adjusting the picture quality of the TV or external
monitor.
1 Zebra Pattern
Using the Zebra Pattern
makes it easy to adjust
the brightness of the
picture to an optimum
level, even before you
start recording.
If you set [ZEBRA] on the
[ADVANCED
FUNCTIONS] Sub-Menu
to [ON], diagonal white
bands (Zebra Pattern)
appear on the LCD
Monitor or in the
Viewfinder on parts of the
picture which are
overexposed (extremely
brightly lit and shiny
subjects).

Picture Adjustment
This enables the sharpness and colour levels of
the pictures to be adjusted during recording. To
adjust the picture, set the Mode Selector Switch
to [MNL] and set [PICTURE ADJ.] on the
[ADVANCED FUNCTIONS] Sub-Menu to [YES].
The setting procedure is the same as for
[LCD/EVF SET] (p. 23) on the [DISPLAY
SETUP] Sub-Menu.
Settings once performed will remain valid so
long as the Mode Selector Switch is at the
[MNL] setting. It is therefore recommended that
the Picture Adjustment be checked prior to
recording at the [MNL] setting.
During Picture
Adjustment, holding
down the [PUSH]
Dial for about
2 seconds returns
the bar indication to
the centre of the
monitor.
